The Church Culture Discernment Framework is not a business model imposed on the church; it is a tool for spiritual discernment rooted in Scripture. While informed by organizational culture theory, it is re-imagined through a biblical and ecclesial lens to help churches remain faithful, healthy, and spiritually aligned.
The Acts 2 Blueprint
Our biblical foundation is anchored in Acts 2:42–47, which paints a picture of a devoted, vibrant, and multiplying church. We assess culture based on these four pillars:
- Teaching (Apostles' Doctrine): Is the church committed to deep theological formation?
- Fellowship: Is there genuine shared life, or just shallow socialization?
- Breaking of Bread (Worship): Is the gathered worship centered on Christ and spiritual encounter?
- Prayer: Is dependence on God evident in the culture?
Discernment, Not Trend-Driven Solutions
The church does not need to become more like the world to be effective; it needs to become more aligned with Christ, His Word, and His mission. This framework helps leaders discern the difference between a "faithful expression" of their culture and a "distorted expression" rooted in fear, control, or trend-chasing.
Healthy vs. Distorted Expressions
Every culture type has a shadow side. A "Traditional" church can be a guardian of truth, but it can also become stagnant and resistant to the Spirit. A "Missional" church can be a sending engine, but it can also burn out its people without deep roots. The framework provides diagnostic questions and Scripture reflections to help you spot these drifts early.
Our Conviction
This assessment was born out of pastoral ministry and a burden to help churches. We believe that by naming your reality and bringing it before the Lord, you can pursue long-term health that honors God and impacts the community.
